At Agape Infant, Waddler, Toddler and Preschool Center, we desire first to prevent discipline problems by:
When it becomes necessary to deal with behavior through discipline, it will be remedial rather than punitive, and shall be on an understanding of the individual child's needs and stage of development.
Discipline shall be directed toward helping the child develop inner control and learning appropriate behaviors. In training or guiding a child and correcting or bringing a child back toward a set goal, the following methods will be used:
Preschoolers:
Toddlers:
Waddlers:
1. Redirection is very important with waddlers, and showing them how to be soft to other people.
2. Helping them to understand their feelings and how another child is showing sadness.
3. Talking with the child and talking about each step they made and understanding that they wanted
that toy and how to help them to understand how to use their words to want things instead of
hitting another child or using other means of aggression.
Corporal punishment is not used at any time. No spanking of children is allowed by teachers. It is also illegal for parents to spank children while at the center. (See Child Abuse and Neglect law).
